The Ultimate Dog Walking Outfits: The Autumn Edit
By Mary Simper (Founder)
When I first got my dog, Chucky, I had no idea that a whole world of dog walking fashion existed. I’d pull on an old pair of joggers, a jumper that (probably) had baked beans spilled down the front of it, and tie my hair in the messiest of buns.
I’m a morning walker, so I’d usually plod across the fields in a pre-coffee haze, barely taking anything in and just hoping to get home quick so I could fill up on the sweet, sweet nectar that is caffeine.
Our walks were not glamorous, and if I’m honest, they weren’t all that fun either.
But here’s the thing: the right outfit can put a little spring in your step.
When the longer days came along, I’d walk more in the evenings or at midday, when my hair was already done, I was wearing something swankier, and of course by that point I’d be at least three coffees deep. And I noticed something amazing… my walks were more enjoyable.
I was more zoned into my surroundings, noticing the way the leaves rustled in the breeze, engaging with Chucky more. We would stop for games, do some training, snap some photos, and it was all down to how I felt — put together, awake, beautiful, and yet practical.
And that’s when my obsession began.
Not just with fashion, and not just with dog walks — but with the combination of the two. I became fascinated by how we can blend function and beauty in a way that improves not just the way we look, but the way we feel.

Cyclists have clothes and accessories for cycling. Tennis players don’t show up in pyjamas. And if you’re walking your dog every day (sometimes twice a day), you need a wardrobe and accessories that actually suit that lifestyle. You need some stylish dog mum outfits!
That’s exactly what Peachy Dog Life is all about.
So, for the first time ever, I’m revealing my favourite autumn dog walking outfits — the luxe, cosy, practical edit — to help you style your walks and feel amazing doing it.

The Best Shoes for Walking the Dog
Shoes set the tone for your whole walk. In autumn, think dark colours (mud-friendly) and at least two pairs:
- Pair One: The everyday stompers — waterproof boots or trainers you don’t mind getting splattered. Dark brown or black keeps them practical, but bonus points if they’re chic enough for a pub stop afterwards.
- Pair Two: The “around the block” shoes — when you just need a quick loop but still want to look put together. I keep a pair of Chelsea boots by the door that instantly elevate leggings and a jumper - perfect for a brunch date with the dog.
What Trousers Should I Wear When Walking the Dog?
Your legs need to be warm, comfy, and move with you. Comfort is key here, and warmth is especially key for the colder months.
- Thermal leggings are my personal go-to in the colder months because they’re sleek, warm, and easy to tuck into boots.
- Flares are also having a moment, and especially ribbed knit flares that balance comfort and style.
- Jeans are totally fine for dog brunch dates or shopping trips, but not the one for wet, muddy fields, as they tend to hold moisture and become uncomfortable.
The Best Jumpers for Dog Walks
Cosy season is jumper season, and nothing says "dog mum fashion" like an oversized style that can be half-tucked for shape. This autumn I’m seeing a lot of:
- Neutrals (cream, oatmeal, beige)
- Earthy greens
- Warm browns and rusts
If you want to add a little personality, look for textures (cable knit, ribbed knits, fleece half zips). A jumper that feels luxe but works under a coat = the perfect layering piece.
The Dog Walking Bag (AKA your best friend)
This is where I have to talk about our premium dog walking bag. Honestly? It’s the piece that makes the outfit.
- The Ivory Cream colour pops gloriously against dark greens, browns, and the burgundy of autumn leaves.
- Gold hardware adds a touch of luxury and even hints at the festive season ahead.
- It’s made from high-quality vegan leather — totally wipeable, even after the muddiest days.
The dog walking sling bag is perfect for brunch dates with the dog, Sunday roasts at your local, or cosying up in the pub with a G&T.
Features I love most:
- Separate front pocket for treats.
- Discreet poo bag dispenser.
- Crossbody style = hands-free for leads, coffee cups, or Instagram reels.
The Best Coats for Walking the Dog
UK autumn basically means rain, rain, and more rain. A waterproof coat is a non-negotiable, and these are my current loves:
- Oversized anoraks in white (risky, yes, but the chic factor is unmatched) or classic neutrals like tan and khaki.
- Equestrian robes are not as flattering, but unbeatable for warmth and dryness on longer treks.
- Tweed-inspired jackets are perfect for those autumn pub lunches where the vibe is more “country chic” than “dog park drenched.” The perfect dog mum style!
…And What About the Dog?
Because dog walking fashion is never just about us, and if you’re wondering what outfits you should wear on your dog walks, then the natural next step is to think about your dog’s outfits too. Nothing brings a look together like the perfect autumn dog accessories.
The Ivory Cream Collection: Autumn Dog Accessories
Our newly launched Ivory Cream Collection is the dog outfit for autumn brunch dates, shopping, and local walks. It matches our bag (yes, matching human + dog accessories are life) and was designed as a timeless set. Perfect for pubs, cafés, garden centres, and anywhere you want your dog to look as stylish as you.
Waterproof Essentials
Autumn = the beginning of muddy season. Our wipeable, waterproof leads and collars come in a range of colours to make post-walk cleanup a breeze. Practicality doesn’t have to mean compromising on style.
What’s In This Autumn?
If you’re wondering about colour schemes and patterns, here’s the vibe for AW25:
- Neutrals → timeless elegance. Creams, browns, beige. Pieces you’ll wear for years.
- Earthy tones → emerald green, burgundy, burnt orange, mustard. Pair one earthy piece with a neutral to feel instantly autumnal.
- Patterns → polka dots, tweed, geometric shapes. Think boho chic in winter rather than florals.
Final Thoughts
Whatever you decide to wear this autumn, remember: a put-together dog walk can completely change the way you experience it. You’ll notice more, enjoy more, and bond more with your dog. Plus, let’s be real, the photos are always cuter.
